a) MSc in Crop Prolection or other fields hke Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology or any other relevant degree
from a recognized university
b) PhD in Crop Protection or other fields hke Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology or any other relevant degree
from a recognized university is an added advantage;
c) Five (5) year experience 1n a similar position or an equivalent senior level in a well established Institution
d) Demonstrate strong management and leadership skills and the drive to acM1eve excellence and have an appreciation
of national agriculture policies
e) Be conversant with the World Trade Organization(WTO)-Sanitary and Phytosanltary(SPS) agreements as well as the
Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the lnternational Plant Protection Convention issues
t) International exposure to WTO -SPS agreement issues, FAO, International Plant Protection Convention and the
Convention on Biological Diversity and Cartagena Protocol will be an added advantage
g) Experience and exposure in handling matters relating to plant protection and enforcement of phytosanotary
measures will be an added advantage;
h) Hands on skills on developing, mentoring and achieving results through people;
i) A strong science base with a publication track record in referred international Journals relevant to crop protection
a) To initiate. plan and coordinate matters relating to crop pests and diseases
b) Develop, coordinate and implement operational policies, standards and procedures relating to phytosanitary and blosafety services
c) Coordinate the grading and inspection of plants and planltproduce at Kenya's points of entry and exit
d) Implement and enforce national biosafety regulations on the introduction and use of genetically or living modified
species of plants. Insects and micro-organisms. plant products and other related species
e) Oversee the regulation of Import and export of plants and plant materials
f) Work in consultation with other relevant agencies to regulate the commercial exploitation of naturally occurring
plants and plant-related micro-organisms
g) Establish strong linkages and collaboration with various local and international organizations involved in the field of
plant protection
h) Be the liason officer of the Corporation in international conventions relating to plant protection and any other related conventions.
