Road safety is high on the agendas of countries over the world and South Africa is no different with an average of 38 lives being lost on South African roads per day. As a roads agency under the Department of Transport one of the mandates of the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) is road safety. In this spirit the Agency is in the process of moving a petition to gather a million signatures to declare 1 October every year a National Prayer Day for Road Safety, to be tabled by Minister of Transport Ms Dipuo Peters to Cabinet in support of the United Nations ‘Make Roads Safe Campaign
